Hackers Bypass Nvidia RTX 50 Memory Clock Limits

Hardware overclocking group Teclab has successfully bypassed Nvidia's memory clock limits on an RTX 5070 Ti, pushing it to over 36 Gbps. The enthusiast-level achievement is a signal of the ongoing push for hardware flexibility and squeezing maximum performance from stock components, a mindset familiar in both high-tech and automotive tuning.

The GALAX GeForce RTX 5070 Ti used in the test comes with a stock memory clock of 28 Gbps. The new GDDR7 memory standard it uses has an initial official data rate of up to 32 Gbps per pin, with a future roadmap extending to 48 Gbps. This 36 Gbps achievement significantly outpaces the previous generation's GDDR6X memory, which ran at 21 Gbps on the flagship RTX 4090 and up to 23 Gbps on the RTX 4080 SUPER. The jump in bandwidth is critical for processing larger datasets in AI and high-resolution video workloads. The Brazil-based Teclab team, sponsored by GPU manufacturer Galax, has a track record of pushing hardware limits. The group previously pushed an RTX 4070 Ti SUPER's GDDR6X memory to 26 Gbps and set a since-broken world record by overclocking an RTX 4090's core to 3.45GHz using liquid nitrogen. Nvidia's software typically restricts RTX 50 series memory overclocks to a +3000 MHz offset. Teclab's bypass works on a logic level below standard software tools, altering the reference for the GPU's clock management so the card reports a lower speed while the memory operates much faster. Historically, Nvidia has controlled factory overclocking to prevent high return rates from instability. Recently, some official driver updates for the new RTX 50 series have also been reported to cap voltage and limit overclocking headroom, with a subsequent hotfix released to address the issue. Higher memory bandwidth directly impacts AI and video rendering performance. Micron, a GDDR7 manufacturer, projects the new memory can cut response times for generative AI tasks like text-to-image generation by up to 20% and deliver over 1.5 TB/s of system bandwidth, reducing processing times for complex calculations.
