EAA Announces Workshop on Aircraft Electrical Systems and Avionics

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has announced a SportAir Electrical Systems & Avionics Workshop scheduled for April 11-12, 2026. The two-day event is aimed at aircraft builders and will cover practical skills such as soldering and working with connectors. The workshop provides hands-on training for building and maintaining aircraft avionics.

- EAA's SportAir workshops are two-day, intensive events designed to provide amateur aircraft builders with hands-on skills and the confidence to complete their projects. Other available in-person courses cover topics such as sheet-metal basics, fabric covering, and composite construction. - The Electrical Systems & Avionics workshop curriculum centers on the installation process and includes hands-on projects like soldering, crimping standard and D-sub connectors, and building a small electrical circuit with a master switch and circuit protection. - An 11-plus-hour online version of the Electrical Systems & Avionics course is available, taught by instructor Dick Koehler. This online option allows participants to learn at their own pace and can be supplemented with a hands-on materials kit for an additional fee. - The cost for the online Electrical Systems & Avionics course is $149 for EAA members, and the companion electrical projects kit is an additional $79 plus shipping. In-person, two-day workshops have previously been priced around $349 for EAA members and $389 for non-members. - These workshops are a core part of the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) mission to grow participation in aviation by providing educational resources and reducing barriers for new builders. Founded in 1953, the EAA has grown to over 300,000 members worldwide. - The workshop will be held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the headquarters of the EAA and home to the EAA Aviation Museum. The city is globally recognized in the aviation community for hosting the annual EAA AirVenture, the world's largest airshow, which attracts over 600,000 attendees and 10,000 aircraft.
