Santa Clara County sheriff’s detectives arrested a 32-year-old man they say posed as a police officer and robbed a Cupertino spa. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Brendan Kroning of San Andreas and said deputies arrested him on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in a San Jose parking garage. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) Investigators said the robbery happened just before 5:30 p.m. on April 15 at Sunny Spa on South De Anza Boulevard in Cupertino. Employees told detectives the man entered wearing a vest, a duty belt and what appeared to be a handgun. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) According to the sheriff’s office, the man claimed he was an officer there to inspect the business. Once inside, he unplugged the spa’s security cameras and told employees to open the cash register. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) The sheriff’s office said he took a large amount of cash and ran from the building to a car parked in an alley. No one was hurt. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) Deputies responded within minutes, and the sheriff’s office said Los Altos Police and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety joined a search of the shopping center with several K-9 teams. Detectives later said evidence found inside Kroning’s car tied him to the robbery. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) Kroning was booked on three counts of robbery, three counts of false imprisonment and one count of impersonating a police officer, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives also served a search warrant at his home in Calaveras County with help from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) The sheriff’s office said detectives are now looking for additional victims who may have had similar encounters with Kroning or with someone impersonating an officer. It said real officers identify themselves, show credentials and do not ask to access cash registers or money during routine visits. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov) Anyone with information, surveillance video or a similar complaint is being asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Services Division or leave an anonymous tip. The case now turns on whether detectives can link the Cupertino robbery to any other incidents. (sheriff.santaclaracounty.gov)
