New Wallets Open $175M in Leveraged ETH Longs

On-chain data shows two new wallets have opened a combined $175 million in leveraged long positions on Ethereum via the decentralized exchange Hyperliquid. The activity signals significant conviction from large-scale traders or institutions in the near-term price of ETH.

- Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on its own Layer 1 blockchain, designed to offer the speed of a centralized exchange with the self-custody benefits of DeFi. This structure allows for features like an on-chain order book and sub-second trade execution without gas fees, which is attractive for large, high-frequency traders. - The platform specializes in perpetual futures, which are derivatives contracts with no expiration date, allowing traders to speculate on the future price of an asset like Ethereum. Using leverage, traders can control a larger position with a smaller amount of capital, with Hyperliquid supporting up to 50x leverage on certain assets. - This large leveraged long position aligns with broader on-chain data showing significant investor accumulation of ETH. For instance, accumulation addresses added over 2.5 million ETH in February, and over 30% of the circulating supply is currently staked. - The total open interest in the ETH derivatives market stands at $11.2 billion, with data indicating that 73% of global accounts are positioned long on ETH, suggesting a broader bullish sentiment among derivatives traders. - Institutional interest in Ethereum has been growing, demonstrated by the launch of spot Ethereum ETFs. These ETFs currently see an average daily trading volume of over $1.65 billion, providing a liquid on-ramp for large-scale investors like hedge funds. - While this trade signals strong bullish conviction, it also introduces significant risk. A liquidation heatmap of the market shows over $2 billion in short positions clustered above the $2,200 price level, but also roughly $1 billion in long liquidation positions concentrated near $1,800.
