Apple Updates Logic Pro X

Apple released a new version of Logic Pro X with a virtual drummer feature and full iPad support, enabling more flexible mobile music production workflows. At NAMM 2026, JUCE Audio Framework launched a new marketplace for audio plug-ins plus a free plug-in development course. Octo Octa also delivered the latest BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix for electronic music inspiration.

Apple's acquisition of Logic's parent company, Emagic, in 2002 for an undisclosed amount was a pivotal moment for the software. The move led to the discontinuation of the Windows version of Logic, a controversial decision that impacted an estimated 70,000 users at the time. Over the years, Apple has integrated major features, such as the sample-manipulation synthesizer Alchemy, following the acquisition of Camel Audio in 2015. The introduction of Logic Pro for iPad in May 2023 marked a significant step towards a more mobile and touch-centric music creation workflow. This evolution builds on previous major updates like Logic Pro X 10.5, which introduced Live Loops, a redesigned sampling workflow, and new beat-making tools, signaling a focus on non-linear production styles. The latest update's full iPad support and new virtual drummer feature continue this trajectory. The JUCE framework, central to the new marketplace, is an open-source C++ framework widely used for developing audio plug-ins and applications across multiple platforms, including VST, AU, and AAX formats. Its importance is so significant that it's believed most songs on the Billboard Hot 100 have been touched by tools created with JUCE. The new marketplace and free course aim to make this technology more accessible, as similar courses can range from free to hundreds of dollars. BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix has been a cornerstone of electronic music culture since its inception in October 1993, hosted by Pete Tong. The two-hour, uninterrupted weekly show is considered a significant milestone for DJs and producers, offering a platform to showcase their skills and musical range to a global audience. Octo Octa, the latest artist to deliver an Essential Mix, is an American house producer and DJ who began releasing music in 2011. An openly transgender artist, her music often explores personal experiences and has been released on labels like 100% Silk and her own T4T LUV NRG, which she runs with her partner Eris Drew.
