OpenAI Valuation Hits $110 Billion

OpenAI's valuation has reportedly reached $110 billion in a recent funding event. This new figure underscores the massive capital flows into leading AI labs and the intense competition for AI dominance.

This meteoric rise in valuation reflects a dramatic revenue ramp-up, with annualized revenue hitting an estimated $20 billion in 2025, a significant leap from $6 billion in 2024 and $2 billion in 2023. This growth is largely fueled by the widespread adoption of ChatGPT's subscription services and enterprise offerings. The valuation journey has been rapid: from $29 billion in early 2023 to $300 billion by March 2025 after a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank. By October 2025, an employee share sale valued the company at $500 billion, surpassing SpaceX as the world's most valuable private company at the time. Despite soaring revenues, profitability remains a distant goal. OpenAI reported a loss of $5 billion on $3.7 billion in revenue in 2024 and projects an operating loss of $8 billion for 2025. The company's cash burn is substantial, with projections of a $17 billion burn in 2026 as it invests heavily in computational power and talent. Major funding has come from partners like Microsoft, which has invested over $13 billion and provides crucial Azure cloud infrastructure. Other key investors in recent rounds include SoftBank, Thrive Capital, and Nvidia, underscoring the immense capital required to lead in the AI space. The company's corporate structure is unique, with a non-profit foundation holding a 26% stake in the for-profit public benefit corporation. Microsoft holds a 27% stake, with employees and other investors owning the remaining 47%. Under a revised agreement, OpenAI will pay Microsoft 20% of its total revenue through 2032. Looking ahead, OpenAI is involved in the "Stargate" AI supercomputer project, a joint venture with Oracle, SoftBank, and MGX in conjunction with the US government, estimated to cost $500 billion. The company is also expanding its enterprise tools and pursuing the development of AI agents capable of automating real-world tasks. The long-term financial strategy targets becoming cash-flow positive by 2029.
