Arkansas' Acuff Named Top Point Guard
Arkansas point guard Darius Acuff is now widely regarded as the country's top point guard after dropping 28 points and 13 assists against Texas. He's shooting ~50% from the field and ~44% from three with a 3:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, earning him a spot on Jon Rothstein's first-team All-American list.
A consensus five-star recruit, Darius Acuff Jr. was ranked as high as the No. 1 point guard in the 2025 class by ESPN and 247Sports. He chose to play for coach John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks over powerhouse programs like Kansas and Michigan. Before arriving in Fayetteville, Acuff honed his skills at the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida. As a junior, he averaged an impressive 20.4 points and 5.5 assists per game, leading the Ascenders to a 20-9 record and a No. 6 national ranking in the final MaxPreps poll. His journey to the top of the recruiting rankings began in his hometown of Detroit, where he starred at Cass Technical High School. As a sophomore, he averaged 21.4 points and 5.7 assists, leading his team to a state championship and earning Michigan's Mr. Basketball award. Acuff has also showcased his talent on the international stage. Playing for the United States under-18 team at the 2024 FIBA AmeriCup, he averaged 17.8 points per game and was named the tournament MVP after leading Team USA to a gold medal. In the championship game against Argentina, he put up 26 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds. Known for his scoring ability, Acuff led the highly competitive Nike EYBL Scholastic circuit in scoring for two consecutive years. His dynamic play has drawn comparisons to NBA guards like Collin Sexton, with scouts praising his advanced ball-handling, ability to create his own shot, and toughness. He has already collected a significant number of accolades, including being named a McDonald's All-American, a Jordan Brand Classic participant, and the MVP of the Iverson Classic All-American Game in 2025. He was also a finalist for the Naismith Trophy High School Player of the Year award.
