Berlin’s experimental music week

Berlin’s MaerzMusik experimental music festival launches today, running alongside a major Neue Nationalgalerie exhibition and a fresh wave of spring restaurant openings across the city ( ). The festival and gallery openings make Berlin a strong spring pick for a culture‑heavy city break right now (travel2berlin.com).

MaerzMusik’s published programme runs from 20–29 March and lists 28 concerts with a total of 16 world premieres scheduled across the festival. (berlinerfestspiele.de) The opening event is a performance by Klangforum Wien of Georg Friedrich Haas’s large-scale microtonal work 11.000 Saiten (11,000 Strings), staged at MaHalla with fifty pianists surrounding the audience to create an immersive sound field. (berlinerfestspiele.de) The 25th edition is directed by Kamila Metwaly, and this year’s Berlin Grand Art Prize recipient Meredith Monk is programmed for a main-stage concert on 21 March in a trio with Katie Geissinger and Allison Sniffin. (berlinerfestspiele.de) The Neue Nationalgalerie’s Brancusi retrospective runs 20 March–9 August 2026, brings together more than 150 works and is billed as the first comprehensive Brancusi exhibition in Germany in over 50 years, organised in cooperation with the Centre Pompidou. (smb.museum) The timing concentrates major contemporary-music premieres across venues such as the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Akademie der Künste, Radialsystem and silent green with a high‑profile modern‑art blockbuster opening at the Neue Nationalgalerie around 20 March. (berlinerfestspiele.de) Berlin’s spring food scene lists multiple new openings this season — visitBerlin’s “Top 11” roundup flags openings and experiences including the Magic Table immersive dining at the Grand Hyatt and notes Zeit für Brot’s sixth branch in Schöneberg opened on 10 February, while local coverage names Almi Bistro, Elotl and Nichi Getsu among anticipated early‑2026 restaurant launches.
