Global tech firms form alliance
Fifteen global technology companies from ten countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America announced the formation of the Trusted Tech Alliance. The initiative was unveiled at the Munich Security Conference. The group's stated goal is to unite to better serve customers worldwide.
- The founding members of the alliance include prominent tech companies such as Microsoft, Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Anthropic, SAP, Ericsson, and Nokia. - The alliance is a direct response to the growing geopolitical fragmentation in the technology sector, aiming to establish trust based on shared standards rather than a company's country of origin. - Participating companies have committed to five key principles: transparent corporate governance and ethical conduct; operational transparency and secure development; robust supply chain and security oversight; an open and resilient digital ecosystem; and respect for the rule of law and data protection. - The initiative covers the full technology stack, including connectivity, cloud infrastructure, semiconductors, software, and artificial intelligence. - Executives from member companies like Microsoft's Vice Chair Brad Smith and Jio Platforms' CEO Kiran Thomas have emphasized that the alliance is built around verifiable standards applicable regardless of where the technology is deployed. - The alliance plans to expand its membership and collaborate with governments and enterprise customers to implement its principles. - This move is seen as a way to counter Europe's push for "digital sovereignty," as the EU currently sources over 80% of its digital products and services from non-EU countries.
