Cincinnati Left Off Michelin

- Michelin announced a new Great Lakes edition but Cincinnati was not included, prompting local disappointment. (travel.yahoo.com) - Yahoo Travel reported regional frustration about Cincinnati's exclusion amid Michelin's Midwest expansion. (travel.yahoo.com) - Local chefs and officials are questioning the omission as the guide extends into new U.S. regions. (travel.yahoo.com)

Cincinnati was left out of Michelin’s new American Great Lakes guide, even as the dining guide expanded into six nearby cities and began scouting restaurants for a 2027 debut. (guide.michelin.com) Michelin announced the Great Lakes edition on April 8, 2026. The guide will cover Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh, while Chicago remains in its own separate Michelin market. (guide.michelin.com, travel.yahoo.com) Michelin said its anonymous inspectors are already visiting the six selected cities and that the first Great Lakes restaurant list will be unveiled in 2027 at a ceremony to be announced later. (guide.michelin.com) The omission stung because Michelin has been widening its United States footprint beyond New York, San Francisco and Chicago. In the last year, Michelin launched new regional guides for the American South, Boston and Philadelphia, and the American Southwest. (travel.yahoo.com, guide.michelin.com, guide.michelin.com) Michelin’s expansion model also helps explain who gets in. The company says it works with destination marketing organizations on promotion and tourism, while insisting that inspectors make restaurant selections independently. (guide.michelin.com, guide.michelin.com) Yahoo Travel reported that Cincinnati chefs and civic leaders questioned why the city was not chosen, and local frustration centered on being bypassed during a Midwest rollout that reached other regional peers. (travel.yahoo.com) The slight lands at a moment when Cincinnati can point to national recognition of its own. WVXU reported on April 3 that Sarah Dworak of Sudova and Jeffery Harris of Nolia Kitchen were 2026 James Beard Award nominees for Best Chef: Great Lakes, and Hideki Harada of Kiki was a semifinalist. (wvxu.org) That does not mean Michelin judged Cincinnati and rejected it. Michelin’s April 8 announcement named only six partner cities for this edition, and the company said inspectors are canvassing those cities now. (guide.michelin.com) For now, Cincinnati’s restaurants remain outside Michelin’s newest map, while Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh compete for stars that will not be awarded until 2027.
