Stellantis said on May 15 that its Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile joint venture is expected to begin producing two all-new Peugeot-branded new energy vehicles at its Wuhan plant from 2027. The company said the models will be aimed at the Chinese market and export markets, tying the program to Peugeot’s international growth plan. The announcement came in a joint statement with Dongfeng Group that also outlined plans to build two Jeep-branded off-road new energy vehicles at the same site from 2027. The project remains subject to approvals and final implementation agreements, according to the companies. ### Which vehicles are planned for Wuhan? The Wuhan plant is expected to produce “initially two all-new Peugeot-branded new energy vehicles” from 2027, Stellantis said in its May 15 statement. The company said those vehicles will draw on the design language of Peugeot concept cars shown at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. (stellantis.com) Peugeot showed two concept vehicles in Beijing in April as previews of a new China lineup, according to Automotive News. That report said the concepts pointed to a return built around large sedans and SUVs co-developed with Dongfeng and manufactured in Wuhan. ### What did Stellantis and Dongfeng actually sign? Stellantis and Dongfeng Group said they signed a strategic cooperation agreement to expand their 34-year partnership through shared production of Peugeot and Jeep vehicles in China for domestic sales and worldwide sales. (stellantis.com) The companies also said they signed a non-binding strategic memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation using their scale, expertise and research and development capabilities. (autonews.com) The DPCA production plan is not yet final. Stellantis said the vehicle program is expected to move ahead only after required approvals and the finalization of implementation agreements. ### How much money is attached to the project? The planned project corresponds to combined investment of more than 8 billion Chinese yuan, or about 1 billion euros, according to Stellantis. (stellantis.com) The company said its expected contribution is about 130 million euros. Hubei province and the Wuhan municipality were cited by Stellantis as supporting factors through what it called favorable automotive industrial policies. (stellantis.com) The company did not break out plant capacity, model names or annual output targets in the statement. ### Why are exports part of the announcement? (stellantis.com) Stellantis said the Peugeot vehicles are intended for China and for export to global markets as part of Peugeot’s international growth plan. The same statement said the Wuhan plant is also expected to build two Jeep-branded off-road new energy vehicles for global markets starting in 2027. (stellantis.com) Automotive News reported in April that Peugeot’s Beijing show concepts previewed a new lineup to be built in China with Dongfeng. Stellantis’ May 15 statement links that earlier product reveal to an export-oriented manufacturing plan based in Wuhan. ### What did the companies say about the partnership? Antonio Filosa, Stellantis chief executive, said in the company statement that Stellantis and Dongfeng were ready to “further leverage their strengths” and introduce new vehicles with EV technologies. (stellantis.com) Dongfeng said the transformation and revitalization of DPCA had been a strategic priority and described the agreement as combining Hubei’s industrial base, Stellantis’ global footprint and Dongfeng’s intelligent electric-vehicle technology. (autonews.com) The companies did not give a launch date beyond 2027 for the first Peugeot model from Wuhan. The next formal steps are approvals and implementation agreements under the May 15 strategic cooperation deal, with DPCA named as the manufacturing joint venture for the Peugeot and Jeep programs.
