Mantle Deploys ERC-8004 for Autonomous Economy
Mantle, a digital asset platform, announced the deployment of the ERC-8004 standard on its mainnet. The new standard is designed to create a specialized trust and identity layer for AI agents. The goal is to facilitate an "autonomous economy" where AI can interact with real-world assets on the blockchain.
- The ERC-8004 standard was co-authored by key personnel from MetaMask AI, the Ethereum Foundation, Google, and Coinbase, with feedback gathered from over 80 teams during its draft stage. - The standard establishes three core on-chain registries: an Identity Registry using NFTs for a unique agent ID, a Reputation Registry to create a portable performance history, and a Validation Registry for cryptographic proof of completed tasks. - This addresses the "visibility crisis" where on-chain AI agents previously could not build a verifiable reputation across different platforms, hindering their participation in high-value financial markets. - The registries are designed as "singleton contracts," meaning only one of each is deployed per blockchain, creating a standardized and shared infrastructure for all AI agents on that chain. - Validation of an agent's work can be achieved through various pluggable trust models, including stake-secured inference re-execution, zero-knowledge machine learning (zkML) proofs, or trusted execution environment (TEE) oracles. - Beyond Mantle, ERC-8004 has also been deployed on numerous other blockchains, including Polygon, BNB Chain, Base, Arbitrum, and Avalanche C-Chain, aiming to establish a cross-platform standard. - The standard is designed to be compatible with existing agent communication protocols like A2A (Agent-to-Agent) and MCP (Machine Communication Protocol), providing a trust layer on top of these frameworks. - Developers can use this infrastructure to build financial agents with verifiable performance records, create data API payment interfaces, and develop services that connect traditional finance (TradFi) with decentralized finance (DeFi).
