Major League Volleyball Appoints First Commissioner
Major League Volleyball has appointed Jaime Weston as its first-ever Commissioner. The move marks a pivotal moment for the third-year professional women's volleyball league as it looks to expand its presence in the U.S.
Jaime Weston brings a wealth of experience from the highest levels of sports and entertainment, having spent over 15 years as a marketing executive at the NFL. There, she was instrumental in brand management, fan development, and advertising, including work on the Super Bowl 50 logo and an update to the iconic NFL shield. Her more recent roles include serving as the EVP of Global Consumer Marketing at Universal Music Group and, most recently, as the Chief Commercial Officer for USA Volleyball. This background in growing fan bases and commercial performance is directly aligned with the league's focus on expansion. Major League Volleyball is entering what is considered its third season, a history that includes a significant recent merger. In August 2025, the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) merged with Major League Volleyball, with the combined entity continuing under the MLV brand. This move consolidated the professional volleyball landscape in the U.S. The league now boasts eight teams for the 2026 season located in Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Omaha, Orlando, and San Diego. The merger and rebranding aim to create a more centralized and elite platform for the sport, with a structure similar to other major American sports leagues. The league has already demonstrated significant fan interest, with a total attendance of over 750,000 in its first two campaigns as the PVF. An inaugural All-Star Match on CBS peaked at 445,000 viewers, showcasing the sport's broadcast potential. Looking ahead, MLV is poised for growth with expansion franchises set for Washington D.C., Northern California, and Minnesota in 2027. The league has attracted high-profile investors, including Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé and Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings. The appointment of a commissioner is a strategic move to provide centralized leadership and governance as the league matures. Weston's primary focus will be on strengthening the on-court product, building local fan communities, and solidifying the pipeline for college athletes to transition to the professional level.
