This generation's spending power is significant, with an average annual travel expenditure of $11,766, surpassing other generations. This spending is directed toward experiences over luxury goods, with 52% of Gen Z splurging on activities compared to just 29% of baby boomers. They will cut costs on flights and food before trimming their experience budget. Digital integration is non-negotiable. Over 80% to 90% of Gen Z travelers book their trips on smartphones, expecting digital check-ins, contactless payments, and in-app loyalty points. Social media is a primary tool for discovery, with 55% using it as a key factor in travel planning, favoring platforms like TikTok and Instagram for authentic, user-generated content. Wellness for Gen Z is an active pursuit, not just passive relaxation. There's a rising demand for experiences like cold plunges, known for reducing stress, and immersive yoga retreats that include guided meditations and farm-to-table meals. This reflects a broader desire for travel that contributes to mental and physical well-being. Despite being hyper-connected, digital detoxes are a growing trend. Only 17% of loyalty members under 30 feel their rewards offer good value. They are more brand-neutral and can be swayed by competitors offering better personalization or value. Real-time, practical rewards like Wi-Fi upgrades or discounted local excursions are more appealing than long-term point accrual. For business travel, Gen Z sees it as a vital career opportunity, with 94% believing it's important for building relationships. They are more likely to extend work trips for personal travel, with 39% working while traveling, often for longer durations of more than 10 days.
