Residents of Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury and Suffield can bring household hazardous waste to Farmington High School on Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (farmington-ct.org) The drop-off site is at 10 Monteith Drive in Farmington, and town notices say proof of residency is required. Farmington, Simsbury and Granby all list the same six-town program and the same Saturday hours. (farmington-ct.org) (granby-ct.gov) The six towns have scheduled three collections for 2026: April 25 in Farmington, then June 13 and October 10 at the Simsbury Public Works Facility at 66 Town Forest Road. All three run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (farmington-ct.org) (simsbury-ct.gov) Household hazardous waste is the paint, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, antifreeze and similar products that town notices say should not go into regular trash. Simsbury and Avon say the collections are meant to keep those materials out of landfills and transfer stations. (simsbury-ct.gov) (avonct.gov) Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection keeps a statewide schedule because many towns rely on periodic collection days instead of curbside pickup for these materials. The agency says municipalities that are not listed may not be holding an event this year and should be contacted directly. (portal.ct.gov) The regional setup also reflects a local change in Canton. A 2026 town press release says Canton is no longer participating in the Metropolitan District Commission collection program, so residents there can no longer use Metropolitan District Commission hazardous-waste events. (townofcantonct.org) Granby’s notice says personal document shredding will also be available Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a limit of two boxes per household. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles while attendants direct unloading. (granby-ct.gov) For the six towns in this program, Saturday is the first of three chances this year to clear out materials that cannot go in the trash without waiting for a fall event.
