Tatum Returns, Celtics Win Big

Jayson Tatum scored 15 points in his first game back from Achilles surgery, helping Boston cruise past Dallas 120-100. Tatum admitted to early nerves and rust but called it a "really good step" in his recovery. His presence sparked the Celtics on both ends as they seized control in the second half.

Tatum's return comes after a trying recovery from a ruptured right Achilles tendon, an injury he sustained in the closing minutes of a playoff game against the New York Knicks on May 12, 2025. The surgery was performed the very next day by Dr. Martin O'Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Many athletes who undergo this procedure, potentially an advanced technique known as a SpeedBridge repair, face a recovery period of nine to 12 months. The Celtics have managed to stay competitive in Tatum's absence, currently holding a 42-21 record. This places them second in the Eastern Conference standings as of early March 2026. Historically, the team has a winning record in the games Tatum has missed throughout his career. For the Dallas Mavericks, the loss extends a difficult stretch in their season. The team now holds a record of 21-42. This defeat marks their latest setback in a season that has seen them struggle to find consistent wins. Looking ahead, the Celtics will face the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road on Sunday, March 8th. Following that, the team will embark on a three-game road trip with matchups against the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and then return home to play the Washington Wizards on March 14th.
