Fitness fundraisers launch

Leisure centres in the UK have launched Diabetes UK fundraisers: Swim22 (22 miles in 12 weeks) and the One Million Steps Challenge (10,800 steps daily for three months) to blend social good with training goals (walthamforestecho.co.uk). Organisers are positioning these as community motivators that scale from casual walkers to committed swimmers (walthamforestecho.co.uk).

All eight Waltham Forest leisure centres taking part are named: Waltham Forest Feel Good Centre, Chingford Leisure Centre, Leyton Leisure Centre, Leytonstone Leisure, Walthamstow Stadium, Peter May Sports Centre, Score Leisure Centre and Walthamstow Leisure Centre. (walthamforestecho.co.uk) The leisure operator Better (GLL) will offer discounted memberships, free online and in-person training events and expert tips to support participants preparing for the challenges. (better.org.uk) GLL says it will promote the Diabetes UK fundraising programmes across its network of more than 250 Better leisure centres and to roughly 800,000 members via social channels and in-centre communications. (better.org.uk) Diabetes UK’s official event pages show Swim22 is scheduled from 22 March to 22 June 2026 and the One Million Step Challenge runs from 1 July to 30 September 2026. (swim22.diabetes.org.uk) Organisers are framing the partnership against Diabetes UK figures that put 4.6 million people in the UK living with a diagnosis of diabetes, a statistic cited in the announcement. (better.org.uk) Both challenge programmes include online tracking, tiered rewards and use JustGiving as the platform for fundraising and donation processing. (swim22.diabetes.org.uk)
