Longsys Showcases On-Device AI Storage
At MWC 2026, semiconductor memory company Longsys is presenting its latest integrated storage solutions for embedded systems. The company's focus is on "AI Storage for the mobile world," demonstrating new products designed to accelerate on-device AI performance.
The performance of on-device AI models, crucial for real-time creative tools, is often constrained by memory bandwidth. Specialized hardware like Neural Processing Units (NPUs) require incredibly fast data access, making storage speed a critical factor alongside processing power. To address this, Longsys is integrating proprietary HLC (High Level Cache) technology into its Universal Flash Storage (UFS) products. This allows the UFS to manage data traditionally handled by DRAM, which can lower the DRAM requirements for AI-powered smartphones and reduce overall device cost. The company also utilizes pTLC technology, which enables firmware to intelligently switch the storage mode between QLC, TLC, and SLC. This dynamic adjustment balances the trade-offs between capacity, performance, and endurance, tailoring the storage to the demands of different AI applications. Beyond mobile, Longsys is targeting AI PCs with high-bandwidth, low-latency mSSD storage. Its consumer brand, Lexar, has built an "AI Storage Core architecture" on this technology, creating hot-swappable, high-capacity products like the AI-Grade Storage Stick for notebooks. For developers and creative professionals, this hardware advancement aims to reduce the friction between intention and execution. Faster on-device storage is foundational for building more complex, multi-tool AI workflows, such as chaining a local image generator with an AI video editor, without the latency of cloud processing. Ultimately, processing AI workloads locally enhances privacy, increases reliability by removing the need for a constant internet connection, and can lower costs. These hardware improvements provide a more stable and powerful platform for building the next generation of creative AI tools that run directly on user devices.
