*Make-Up Is a Lie* is Morrissey's fourteenth solo album. It was released on March 6, 2026, after facing delays and a scrapped first version. This is his first album in five years, following well-publicized difficulties in finding a record label. The album was initially titled *Without Music the World Dies* and recorded in early 2023. Morrissey wasn't happy with the results and re-recorded it in late 2023, renaming it *You're Right, It's Time*. Eventually, half the tracks were scrapped, six new ones were recorded, and the album was released as *Make-Up Is a Lie*. "The Monsters of Pig Alley" delves into themes of fame and family. Morrissey explained the song is about parents trying to dissuade their child from seeking fame, but the child ultimately finds success before being murdered. The lyrics reflect the parents' plea for their child to return home, despite their perceived shortcomings. The album includes a cover of Roxy Music's "Amazona", showcasing Morrissey's appreciation for 1970s music. Joe Chiccarelli produced the album, his fifth collaboration with Morrissey, which allowed Morrissey's voice to dominate. Other tracks include "You're Right It's Time," "Notre Dame," "Zoom Zoom The Little Boy," and "The Night Pop Dropped".
