Chelsea FC Selects IFS as AI Technology Partner

Chelsea Football Club has selected enterprise software company IFS as its new Principal Partner. As part of the partnership, the English Premier League club will use IFS's AI technology to enhance performance analysis and operational efficiency both on and off the field.

- IFS has a history in enterprise software, founded in 1983 in Sweden, and has grown into a major provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), and Field Service Management (FSM) solutions. The company's recent valuation exceeded €15 billion, with a 30% year-over-year increase in annual recurring revenue as of the first quarter of 2025. - The partnership is not IFS's first entry into major sports; the company is also the Official Technology Partner of the Big Ten Conference in US college sports, where its AI is used to assist with game scheduling and to provide advanced statistics for broadcasts. IFS also has partnerships with the Cadillac Formula 1 team and the Sri Lanka Cricket team. - The "Industrial AI" that IFS will implement at Chelsea is designed to be embedded into the club's operational systems, not just as a standalone analytics tool. In industrial settings, this technology is used for tasks like predictive maintenance on equipment and automating the processing of customer orders. - For Chelsea, this "Industrial AI" will likely be applied to a range of off-field operations. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in sports clubs are used to manage finances, track transfer spending, and analyze fan engagement data to increase revenue from tickets and merchandise. - In terms of on-field performance, AI in football is increasingly used for tactical analysis and player recruitment. For example, some clubs use AI to model how an opponent might react to certain tactics or to analyze vast amounts of player data to identify potential signings. - AI is also being deployed to monitor player fitness and reduce injury risks. By analyzing data from GPS vests and other wearables, AI models can detect early signs of fatigue, which can help in adjusting training loads and preventing injuries. - This deal provides Chelsea with a permanent front-of-shirt sponsor, something the club has lacked since its partnership with the telecommunications company Three ended in 2023.
