Caribbean Adventure Tourism Campaign Launches

The 'One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences' showcase became a highlight at the Travel & Adventure Show in Washington, DC, presenting the region's diversity in adventure, culture, and eco-tourism. The initiative aims to attract travelers seeking unique, multi-island journeys from sailing and hiking to culinary exploration, emphasizing sustainable tourism practices and tailored experiences across the Caribbean.

- The "One Caribbean: Infinite Experiences" campaign is the Caribbean Tourism Organization's (CTO) official theme for 2026, aiming to present the region as a unified and secure destination with a wide variety of offerings. The strategy specifically emphasizes adventure tourism and immersive local heritage festivals, moving beyond the traditional image of sun and sand. - The campaign is spearheaded by CTO Secretary-General and CEO Dona Regis-Prosper, who has emphasized that modern luxury in the Caribbean is increasingly defined by personalized service and authentic cultural connections. - This tourism push comes as the Caribbean experiences a strong post-pandemic recovery, with an estimated 34.2 million international tourist arrivals in 2024, a 6.1% increase over 2023 and 6.9% above 2019 levels. Projections for 2025 anticipate a further increase to approximately 35 million visitors. - The United States remains the largest source market for tourists, accounting for about 16.8 million visitors in 2024. The Dominican Republic was the most visited destination in 2024 with 8.5 million tourists. - In line with the campaign's focus on sustainability, the CTO will host the Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development in Belize in April 2026. The conference will focus on integrating the "blue, green, and orange economies" (marine, environmental, and cultural assets) into tourism planning. - Adventure tourism, a key component of the new campaign, is being promoted across the region with activities such as jungle bobsledding in Jamaica, exploring Harrison's Cave in Barbados, and snorkeling above the underwater volcano "Kick 'em Jenny" in Grenada. - Multi-destination trips are being encouraged to showcase the region's diversity, with suggested itineraries like a Southern Caribbean circuit covering Barbados, St. Lucia, and Grenada, or an exploration of the Virgin Islands. - Underscoring the commitment to eco-tourism, nearly half of tourism businesses have invested in energy-efficient technologies, and a significant percentage of travelers indicate a willingness to pay more for sustainable and eco-adventure experiences.
