Meta has expanded Instagram’s Edits app with more than 130 features in its first year, adding new tools for recording, captioning and planning videos. (storyboard18.com) The app launched on April 22, 2025 as a standalone mobile video editor for creators making short-form clips on phones, with Meta pitching it as an all-in-one workflow from camera to publishing insights. (about.fb.com) By April 22, 2026, Meta said weekly updates had pushed Edits past 130 added features, and Instagram head Adam Mosseri said more changes were still in development based on creator feedback. (buzzincontent.com) The feature list now reaches beyond trimming and transitions. Meta says Edits includes an in-app teleprompter for script reading during recording, while upcoming caption upgrades include bilingual support. (storyboard18.com) That pushes Edits closer to a production desk than a basic editor. Meta has also been building storyboards, templates, saved ideas, audio references and post-publishing insights into the same app. (about.fb.com, socialmediatoday.com) The teleprompter shows rolling text directly below the phone’s front camera, and users can adjust text size and scroll speed while recording. Instagram rolled that tool out broadly in June 2025. (socialmediatoday.com) Meta has also said future updates will add advanced color grading, speed controls and more customizable layouts so creators can rearrange tools around their own workflow. (storyboard18.com) The company has been widening Edits’ template system as well, including creator-led examples and editable project files that show how specific videos were built. Some template features were already being tested in markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland by December 2025. (buzzincontent.com, socialmediatoday.com) Edits arrived as Meta tried to keep more of the creator toolchain inside its own ecosystem and offer exports for use beyond Instagram and Facebook. One year in, the app is being updated less like a one-off camera tool and more like a full mobile studio. (about.fb.com, storyboard18.com)
