Amazon Web Services has made AWS Interconnect — multicloud generally available, turning its cross-cloud private networking service from preview into a shipping product on April 14. (aws.amazon.com) The service gives customers a managed Layer 3 connection — a private routed link, rather than a public internet path — between Amazon Virtual Private Cloud networks and other clouds. Google Cloud is the first launch partner at general availability, while Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure are slated for later in 2026. AWS says Interconnect uses pre-built capacity pools between selected AWS Direct Connect sites and partner interconnect locations so customers can bring up links without ordering new physical circuits. The repository describes an OpenAPI 3.0 “symmetric API” and protocol for coordinating managed Layer 3 connectivity between providers. Google said the collaboration introduced an open specification for network interoperability to automate private, high-speed connections between the two clouds. General availability arrived a little more than four months later, with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure added to the list of planned future partners.
