Boca de Oro Festival Returns to Santa Ana

The Boca de Oro Art & Literature Festival is returning to downtown Santa Ana on March 7th. This year's event, themed "The Creative Renaissance," will feature a celebration of art, music, and culture. The festival aims to promote imagination and creativity throughout the local community.

This year's "The Creative Renaissance" theme frames the festival as a direct response to an age dominated by technology, aiming to foster a renaissance of human expression. The event will feature multiple stages dedicated to live performance, including the "Living Stage" for music, dance, and theatre, as well as specific stages for choirs, bands, and orchestras. This focus on live and interactive art is a deliberate move to encourage personal connection and tangible experiences. A key component of the festival is the "Artists Alley" on French Street, which will provide a space for local artists and makers to display and sell handmade works. This directly connects to the event's goal of supporting the local creative ecosystem and offers a platform for artists to engage with the community and potential patrons. Complementing this is the "Creative Commons" area, designed to connect attendees with local educators and community partners. The festival is a collaborative effort between the Santa Ana Unified School District, the City of Santa Ana, Santa Ana College, and the Santa Ana Business Council. This public-private partnership underscores the event's role in the city's broader economic development strategy, which views the arts as a vital component of a thriving downtown. Historically, the festival has drawn between 7,000 and 10,000 participants annually, providing a significant boost to local businesses. Since its inception, Boca de Oro has featured over 600 authors and more than 15,000 visual and performing artists. The event was founded to fill a void, as there were no free public literary festivals in the region, with a specific mission to highlight the diverse voices of Santa Ana, which has a majority Latino population followed by Vietnamese and Cambodian communities. This commitment to showcasing a wide range of talent continues to be a central focus of the festival.
