Metallica Expands Vegas Sphere to 24 Shows
Metallica has expanded their 'Life Burns Faster' Las Vegas Sphere residency from 8 to 24 shows, now stretching into 2027. Tickets for the 16 new dates went on sale Friday morning, reflecting the band's enduring popularity and the draw of immersive concert technology.
The band's massive drawing power was recently demonstrated on their M72 World Tour, which in 2024 alone grossed an estimated $179 million and sold 1.5 million tickets across just 24 shows. That tour ranked as the ninth-highest-grossing worldwide for the year. The 24-show residency places Metallica in the upper echelon of artists who have played the technologically advanced venue. U2 inaugurated the Sphere with a 40-show run, and Dead & Company recently completed a 30-show engagement. Previous residencies at the $2.3 billion Sphere have generated massive revenues, setting a high bar for success. U2's 40 nights grossed over $244 million, while Dead & Company's 30 shows pulled in more than $131 million. The venue itself, which seats 17,600, is a major attraction, featuring a 160,000-square-foot, 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen and advanced audio technologies designed for an immersive experience. Metallica's ability to command such a lengthy residency stems from a multi-decade career of massive commercial success. Their 1991 self-titled "Black Album" is one of the best-selling albums in U.S. history, having surpassed 20 million copies sold. The band has sold more than 182 million equivalent albums worldwide.
