Agoura Road in Agoura Hills is closing weekdays through July 1 as crews build a key piece of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. (dot.ca.gov) Caltrans said the closure covers Agoura Road between Rondell Street and Hydepark Drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting Monday, April 20, 2026. No through traffic — including drivers, bicyclists, or pedestrians — is allowed inside the work zone during those hours. (dot.ca.gov) Residents who live inside the closure area will still be able to reach their homes, and businesses will remain open with access from the east at 28879 Agoura Road. Caltrans said emergency vehicles will be let through when conditions allow. (dot.ca.gov) The work now is on abutment walls, the heavy end supports that hold up a bridge. This crossing is being built over U.S. Highway 101 at Liberty Canyon, where the freeway cuts between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Simi Hills. (dot.ca.gov 1) (dot.ca.gov 2) Caltrans describes the project as a vegetated bridge, meaning it will be covered with soil and native plants so animals can cross a freeway on terrain that looks and functions more like habitat than pavement. The agency says it will be the largest wildlife crossing of its type in the nation. (dot.ca.gov) The crossing is meant to reconnect habitat that Highway 101 split apart, especially for animals that need large ranges. Caltrans says the freeway has isolated wildlife populations, including mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains. (dot.ca.gov) This closure is part of the project’s second and final construction stage. State officials said in June 2025 that the last phase would extend the crossing over the local road, move utilities, restore drainage, and protect heritage oak trees. (gov.ca.gov) Agoura Road has already been under intermittent controls this month for related work, including installing wall rebar, electrical conduit, and junction boxes. Caltrans also announced daytime full closures on the same stretch in November 2025 as stage-two construction began. (dot.ca.gov 1) (dot.ca.gov 2) The road closure is one more sign that the bridge is moving from its concrete-and-steel phase to the work that ties it into the surrounding hillsides. For drivers in Agoura Hills, that means weekday detours now as the wildlife crossing pushes toward completion. (dot.ca.gov) (gov.ca.gov)
