CicLAvia turned three miles of West Los Angeles streets into a car-free route Sunday for its first open-streets event of 2026. (ciclavia.org) (ladot.lacity.gov) The route ran along Santa Monica Boulevard and Westwood Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026. CicLAvia said this was its 65th Los Angeles open-streets event since 2010. (ciclavia.org) The event was free, had no starting line or finish line, and allowed people to join anywhere along the route. Organizers said walking, jogging, biking, roller skating and spectating were all welcome. (ciclavia.org) CicLAvia closes streets to car traffic for a day and treats them like a temporary park. Its frequently asked questions page says the nonprofit now holds four or more Sunday events each year in Los Angeles County. (ciclavia.org) Los Angeles Department of Transportation cast the West LA event as an Earth Month street closure and said outreach teams would be on hand to share information about local safety upgrades. The agency said the route was meant for people to move, explore and connect with neighbors. (ladot.lacity.gov) CicLAvia set up two main hubs for the day: a Santa Monica Boulevard hub at 12416 Santa Monica Blvd. and a Westwood hub at 923 Westwood Blvd. The event page also pointed people to an interactive map for businesses, activities and route planning. (ciclavia.org 1) (ciclavia.org 2) The activities page listed free water, first aid, bike parking and basic bike repair at every hub. It also listed booths from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles, the Los Angeles City Clerk and Councilwoman Traci Park’s office at the Santa Monica Boulevard hub. (ciclavia.org) Getting there took some planning. CicLAvia said official no-parking rules began at 1 a.m., street closures started at 6 a.m., full closures were in effect by 8 a.m., and the route was expected to reopen to cars by about 6 p.m. (ciclavia.org) Metro access was available but not directly on the route. CicLAvia said the nearest E Line stops were 26th St/Bergamot, Expo/Bundy and Expo/Sepulveda, each within about 1.2 miles or less of the route or hubs. (ciclavia.org) The West LA route was also new. CicLAvia’s event page described it as a brand-new course connecting Santa Monica Boulevard and Westwood Boulevard, opening another stretch of the city to people instead of cars for one Sunday.
