Smokey Robinson Legal Drama
Legendary R&B singer Smokey Robinson is facing allegations that he's "obstructing" an ongoing legal case. Details of the dispute are still developing, but the story has become a talking point across R&B and entertainment communities.
The legal dispute stems from a lawsuit filed in May 2025 by four former housekeepers, identified as Jane Does, who accuse Smokey Robinson of sexual battery, assault, and false imprisonment. The number of accusers has since grown to six, including a male former employee. The allegations span from 2007 to 2024 and include claims of repeated sexual assault at his various residences. In addition to the sexual misconduct allegations, the lawsuit also includes claims of labor violations against both Smokey Robinson and his wife, Frances. The plaintiffs allege they were subjected to a hostile work environment, denied proper pay for overtime and holidays, and not given appropriate meal breaks. Smokey Robinson, 85, and his wife have vehemently denied all accusations, characterizing the lawsuit as an extortion attempt. In response to the initial $50 million lawsuit, Robinson filed a $500 million countersuit for defamation, slander, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. His legal team asserts that the allegations are part of an organized effort to extract money from the music icon. The recent claims of obstruction arise from the plaintiffs' attorneys, who have asked a judge to intervene. They allege that Robinson is deliberately delaying the legal process by providing incomplete responses during discovery and improperly invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in a civil matter. Robinson's lawyer has countered, stating that it is the plaintiffs who have caused delays.
