Local investor buys Government Street properties
A local investor purchased multiple Government Street properties for redevelopment, signaling confidence in Main Street revitalization.
The investor, Matthew Newman, spent roughly $1 million to acquire three parcels along the Mid City corridor. The properties include two buildings at 4308 and 4328 Government St., plus land parcels at 4316 Government St. and 527 Ingleside Ave. Newman also purchased the former Lettermans property on Government Street for an undisclosed amount. Lettermans, a Baton Rouge printing company since the 1940s, had moved its production facility last May. The redevelopment is expected to unfold over the next 12 to 18 months. While the specific retail concept remains under wraps, it's intended to complement the existing character of the Government Street corridor.
