TikTok Shop expands

TikTok Shop is preparing launches in Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium, which would bring the service to nine European countries. The report flags hiring activity as the signal for these imminent market entries. (retail.ro)

TikTok Shop is preparing to enter Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium, extending its European footprint beyond the six countries where the service is already live. (ecommercenews.eu) The signal is hiring. Trade publication Ecommerce News Europe reported job listings for a “strategic readiness team” and customer solutions managers who speak Polish or Dutch, pointing to launch work in those markets. (ecommercenews.eu) TikTok has already confirmed two recent waves of European expansion: Ireland and Spain in December 2024, then France, Germany and Italy on March 31, 2025. That made six European TikTok Shop markets before the new reported additions. (newsroom.tiktok.com 1) (newsroom.tiktok.com 2) TikTok Shop is the company’s in-app checkout business, built around videos, livestreams and creator recommendations instead of sending shoppers to an outside website. TikTok describes the model as “discovery e-commerce,” where browsing content and buying happen in the same app. (newsroom.tiktok.com) The push comes as TikTok says it reaches more than 200 million people in Europe, including 170 million in the European Union. In February 2026, the company said advertising on TikTok generated €31 billion in economic value across the European Union in 2025, including €920 million in Poland. (newsroom.tiktok.com) TikTok has also been building a broader corporate base in the region for years. In a 2022 policy update, the company said it had more than 5,000 employees across 10 European countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland. (newsroom.tiktok.com) The expansion is landing under tighter European scrutiny of large platforms. The European Commission opened a Digital Services Act investigation into TikTok in February 2024 over issues including child safety, advertising transparency and data access for researchers, then opened another case in April 2024 over the TikTok Lite launch in France and Spain. (digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu 1) (digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu 2) European regulators are also paying closer attention to products sold online. The Commission’s latest Safety Gate report said 4,137 dangerous non-food product alerts were filed in 2024, with cosmetics and toys making up more than half of the cases. (commission.europa.eu) TikTok says it has invested nearly $1 billion in tools, technology and staff to protect its marketplace, and its 2024 Shop Safety Report says it blocks counterfeit and prohibited goods through policy enforcement and product review systems. (newsroom.tiktok.com) (tiktok.com) If the reported launches go ahead, TikTok Shop will move from six to nine European countries in less than two years, turning a United Kingdom-led experiment into a broader European retail network.
