West Loop to Get Music Venue
A new music venue and restaurant paying homage to Jerry Garcia is slated to open soon in Chicago's West Loop. The establishment will combine live music with a dining experience, adding to the neighborhood's vibrant entertainment scene. The specific name and opening date have not yet been announced.
- The venue, named Garcia's Chicago, is a project from veteran promoter Peter Shapiro and his company Dayglo Presents, which also operates the Brooklyn Bowl and The Capitol Theatre. It is a partnership with the family of the late Grateful Dead frontman, Jerry Garcia. - With a capacity of 300, Garcia's Chicago is positioned as an intimate seated concert and dining experience, contrasting with larger nearby venues like The Salt Shed (3,600 indoor capacity) and Radius (2,500-3,800 capacity). - The food and beverage program is being developed by the Lowder-Tascarella Hospitality Group, known for their work with high-end establishments like The Nomad and The Modern, with Chicago native Ivy Carthen serving as the executive chef. - The venue is taking over the 8,300-square-foot space of the former Wishbone restaurant, a beloved West Loop institution, and has undergone a complete gut renovation, including a new facade. - Garcia's Chicago will feature state-of-the-art technical capabilities, including a complete multitracking system to record performances, 4K live-streaming options, and the latest Yamaha DM7 sound console. - The initial lineup for the venue includes performances by artists like Grace Potter, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Grahame Lesh, son of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh.
