Bay Area and Portland organizers are turning Earth Day into a live event this weekend, pairing climate booths and hands-on activities with music and food. (earthday.org) In San Francisco, the Earth Day Festival & Green Business Expo runs Saturday, April 18, from noon to 3 p.m. at Yerba Buena Gardens as the kickoff event for San Francisco Climate Week. Organizers said the free event includes local green business vendors, community booths, live music from LoCura and DJ Lamont, food and a tree-planting demo on the gardens’ living rooftop. (sfenvironment.org) Across the Bay, Earth Day San Francisco returns Sunday, April 19, from noon to 6 p.m. at The New Farm in Bayview-Hunters Point. The lineup includes multiple bands, food trucks, vendors, art, a kids zone and environmental education at the community garden site on Cargo Way. (earthdaysf.org) Another Bay Area event, Pacific Beach Coalition’s Earth Day of Action and EcoFest, starts Saturday morning with cleanup and habitat restoration at more than 15 San Mateo County sites. Its main festival at Pacifica State Beach runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with more than 30 booths and activities, plus music, art and guest speakers. (pacificbeachcoalition.org) The Bay Area mix of music and sustainability demos tracks with this year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” which Earthday.org says is focused on collective action and everyday environmental work. The official site lists community cleanups, teach-ins, tree plantings and town halls among the 2026 event formats. (earthday.org) In Portland, Maine, the city scheduled its Earth Day celebration for Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deering Oaks Park, several days before Earth Day itself on Wednesday, April 22. WGME reported the event was billed as a family-friendly gathering centered on local climate initiatives, with live music and activities. (wgme.com) The City of Portland said the free event also includes food trucks and outdoor activities, with city departments and local green groups taking part. Portland Trails described it as the fourth annual celebration and listed bike repair, clothing mending, wildflower planting, nature bingo and face painting among the activities. (portlandmaine.gov, trails.org) Portland organizers tied the event to the opening day of the Portland Farmers’ Market, and local listings said more than 20 environmental organizations were expected at the park. The featured band was Leaf, a local psych rock jam band, according to Portland Trails and other event calendars. (visitportland.com, trails.org) The through line in both regions is practical climate outreach: not just speeches, but repair tables, green business booths, transit and bike programming, and places for families to stay awhile. This year’s Earth Day lands on April 22, but in San Francisco, Pacifica and Portland, the public-facing push is already underway. (sfenvironment.org, pacificbeachcoalition.org, portlandmaine.gov)
