Local Earth Day events with live music

Bay Area and Portland organizers are turning Earth Day into a live event this weekend, pairing climate booths and hands-on activities with music and food. (earthday.org) In San Francisco, the Earth Day Festival & Green Business Expo runs Saturday, April 18, from noon to 3 p.m. at Yerba Buena Gardens as the kickoff event for San Francisco Climate Week. Organizers said the free event includes local green business vendors, community booths, live music from LoCura and DJ Lamont, food and a tree-planting demo on the gardens’ living rooftop. (earthday.org) In Portland, Maine, the city scheduled its Earth Day celebration for Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deering Oaks Park, several days before Earth Day itself on Wednesday, April 22. WGME reported the event was billed as a family-friendly gathering centered on local climate initiatives, with live music and activities. Portland Trails described it as the fourth annual celebration and listed bike repair, clothing mending, wildflower planting, nature bingo and face painting among the activities.
