Peloton and Garmin Deepen Integration
The data loop between Peloton and Garmin is now complete, as Peloton workouts can now sync back to Garmin Connect. This two-way data flow signals a broader trend in the fitness industry toward creating unified, open ecosystems where user data moves seamlessly between apps and wearable devices.
The initial integration between Peloton and Garmin, which rolled out in the fall of 2025, was a one-way street. It allowed users to sync their completed Garmin workouts over to the Peloton platform, but not the other way around. This meant dedicated Peloton users still had to manually log their rides or runs or use third-party apps to get their workout data into Garmin Connect. Hints of a deeper partnership surfaced in June 2025 when Peloton's CEO, Peter Stern, mentioned an "integration with Garmin smartwatches" at the Bloomberg Tech conference. This was a long-awaited feature for users who had been requesting seamless data sharing between the two fitness giants for years. The new two-way sync, launched in March 2026, finally closes the data loop. Now, Peloton workouts automatically push to Garmin Connect, impacting key training metrics like Training Status, Recovery Time, and Training Load. This eliminates the need for users to "double-record" workouts on a Garmin device while using Peloton equipment. This collaboration is part of a larger trend in the booming connected fitness market. The global market for connected gym equipment was valued at over USD 1.2 billion in 2024 and is projected to exceed USD 9.9 billion by 2033. This growth is fueled by the increasing integration of IoT and AI, which allows for real-time data tracking and personalized workout experiences. Garmin has a history of opening its ecosystem to other platforms, partnering with a variety of third-party fitness websites like Strava, MyFitnessPal, and TrainingPeaks. This strategy of allowing data to flow between services reflects a growing consumer demand for interoperability in the health and wellness space. The wearable technology market itself is projected to reach USD 109 billion by 2026. As of 2022, over a third of U.S. adults reported using a wearable device. This widespread adoption makes seamless data sharing between wearables and fitness platforms not just a convenience, but a core expectation for many users.
