Michigan's March Madness Outlook

Despite losing their backup point guard LJ Cason to an ACL tear, Michigan (29-2) is still a favorite entering March Madness, says coach Dusty May [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_yAzq6uJtk].

Even with the loss of Cason, Michigan is considered to have a championship-caliber team, with some analysts projecting them as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines' strong regular-season performance, including winning the Big Ten title, supports this outlook. Dusty May said that Cason will likely redshirt the 2026-27 season to fully recover. The timing of Cason's surgery is yet to be determined, as the team wants him present for the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments. Roddy Gayle Jr. and Trey McKenney are expected to step up in Cason's absence. May specifically mentioned Gayle as someone who will get more playing time and be more aggressive. Michigan's success this season has been attributed to May's coaching and the team's culture. May was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. The team's strong offense and defense also make them a formidable opponent.
