Resident Evil Requiem Breaks Records
The GeekVerse Podcast's spoiler review calls Resident Evil Requiem host Dale Mosnett's "favorite Resident Evil game" and argues it deserves a "top 10 games of all time" spot. The dual-perspective approach — first-person horror with Grace and third-person action with Leon — enhances each character's gameplay style across 10+ hour campaigns.
*Resident Evil Requiem* has shattered franchise records on Steam, doubling the peak concurrent player count of 2023's *Resident Evil 4* remake with over 344,000 players at its launch. In the United Kingdom, its physical sales launch surpassed both *Resident Evil Village* and the *RE4* remake. The majority of these UK sales were on PlayStation 5, accounting for 54%, with PC at 36%, Xbox at 6%, and the Nintendo Switch 2 at 4%. The game's development took a significant turn over its six-year cycle. Director Koshi Nakanishi, who also directed *Resident Evil 7*, confirmed that *Requiem* was initially conceived as an online, open-world multiplayer game. However, the project was rebooted in 2021 to a more traditional single-player format after the development team concluded the multiplayer concept "wasn't what the fans wanted". New protagonist Grace Ashcroft is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, an investigative journalist who was a protagonist in the 2003 spin-off title *Resident Evil Outbreak*. She is voiced by Angela Sant'Albano in her video game debut, while series veteran Nick Apostolides returns to voice Leon S. Kennedy. Critics have lauded the dual-character approach, with Gaming Bible calling it a "masterful mix of action & horror" in their 10/10 review. The game's critical reception has been strong, earning an 88 on Metacritic. IGN, which scored the game a 9/10, stated it "successfully splices two separate strains of survival horror together into the one highly infectious new mutation". While some reviews noted a reliance on nostalgia, the general consensus praised it as a celebration of the franchise's 30-year history.
