Mercedes-AMG GT Gets Interior Reveal
Mercedes-AMG has revealed the new GT 4-Door's cabin, designed to get your "pulse racing" with cutting-edge style and illuminated cupholders. The flagship AMG coupe is also being refreshed for 2027, with spy shots indicating a bold new look for their upcoming electric super-GT.
The new interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door is dominated by a trio of large screens, including a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central multimedia screen angled towards the driver, and an optional 14-inch display for the front passenger. This new setup is powered by the AI-enhanced Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), a proprietary system designed to connect all vehicle domains and allow for extensive over-the-air updates. A notable feature on the new center console is a set of three illuminated rotary knobs. These provide direct, physical control over the electric motors' throttle response, the car's cornering behavior through the "Agility Control," and a nine-stage traction control system. The cabin also features an expansive panoramic "SKY CONTROL" roof that can be switched from clear to opaque in segments and can display illuminated AMG logos at night. The upcoming all-electric GT models are built on the new, dedicated AMG.EA (AMG Electric Architecture) platform. This high-performance architecture utilizes advanced, compact, and power-dense axial-flux electric motors. The upcoming super-sedan is expected to feature a three-motor setup, one in the front and two in the rear, delivering a combined output of around 1,341 horsepower. This new electric powertrain is not just about raw power; it's also about endurance and rapid charging. The AMG.EA platform features an 800-volt architecture with a direct-cooled battery, enabling incredibly fast charging speeds. During testing with the Concept AMG GT XX, the system achieved a peak charging speed of over 1 megawatt (1,000 kW), adding a significant amount of range in just minutes. The original Mercedes-AMG GT was introduced in 2014 as the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. A significant design evolution occurred with the introduction of the Panamericana grille on the GT R model, a feature now signature to the AMG brand, which pays homage to the 1952 300 SL racing car. Over its first generation, the AMG GT lineup expanded to include several high-performance variants. The GT C, introduced in 2017, offered 550 horsepower and a wider body. The GT R, arriving in 2017, pushed output to 577 horsepower and added features like manually adjustable coilovers and active aerodynamics. The pinnacle of the internal combustion GT lineup is the Black Series, which boasts a 720-horsepower V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. This track-focused model features extensive use of carbon fiber and an aggressive aerodynamics package. It also holds the production car lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a time of 6:43.616 minutes. The forthcoming electric AMG GT models will go head-to-head with the Porsche Taycan. While the Taycan currently boasts a quicker 0-100 km/h sprint in some configurations, the electric AMG GT is expected to have a higher top speed and more torque. The estimated starting price for the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT EV is around $230,000.
