Colorado Beats Kansas in OT
The Colorado Buffaloes edged out Kansas 69-66 in overtime during Big 12 women's tournament play. The nail-biter showcased grit and resilience from both squads, with Colorado ultimately prevailing in extra time in what became a defensive battle.
The low-scoring affair was a stark contrast to the teams' previous meeting on February 1, when Colorado won a 69-66 overtime thriller in Lawrence. This time, defense dominated, with both teams struggling to find their offensive rhythm throughout the contest at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. Colorado's victory was built on a superior rebounding effort, where they outrebounded Kansas 39-25. The Buffaloes' bench also played a crucial role, outscoring the Jayhawks' reserves 24-16. Freshman Logyn Greer, recently named to the Big 12's All-Freshman team, led Colorado with 10 points. For Kansas, junior guard S'Mya Nichols was the lone player in double figures, scoring a game-high 14 points and adding four steals. The Buffaloes' defense successfully contained Big 12 Freshman of the Year Jaliya Davis, holding her to just eight points on 2-for-9 shooting, the first time she was held under 10 points this season. With the win, sixth-seeded Colorado improves to 21-10 on the season and advances to the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. They are set to face No. 3 seed Baylor in the next round. The victory also significantly boosts Colorado's chances for an at-large bid in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. The loss drops 11th-seeded Kansas to 19-13 for the season. The Jayhawks, who started their conference schedule with a 1-6 record before rallying to an 8-10 finish, will now await their postseason fate, hoping for a bid to a national tournament.
