The Miura debuted at the Geneva Motor Show on March 10, 1966, and it revolutionized the automotive world. Its unveiling marked a shift in what a high-performance vehicle could be. The car's V12 engine, mounted transversely behind the driver, was inspired by motorsport design, a radical departure from GT tradition. This layout pushed engineering boundaries to keep the wheelbase compact. Lamborghini will celebrate the Miura's 60th anniversary with events, including a Polo Storico Tour in Northern Italy in May. The brand's Heritage department is organizing the tour. Marcello Gandini from Bertone designed the Miura's body. At just 27 years old, Gandini created "eyelash" headlights and rear window slats for the car. The Miura's influence extends to modern supercars like the Countach, Diablo, Murciélago, Aventador, and Revuelto. Its mid-engine layout and wedge-inspired proportions laid the groundwork for these vehicles.
