The government has indicated plans to increase the fee to £20 in the future. - Applying is done online or through the "UK ETA" mobile app, and while most applicants receive a decision within minutes, it can take up to three working days. - The system's full enforcement began on February 25, 2026; carriers are now required to deny boarding to non-visa nationals who do not have a valid ETA before traveling to the UK. - The ETA is part of a broader strategy to digitize the UK's borders and enhance security by screening visitors in advance. It is a digital permission to travel, but does not guarantee entry into the country. - British and Irish citizens are exempt from the ETA requirement.
