Brandi AI Launches Framework for 'Generative Engine Optimization'
Brandi AI has launched a new framework to help brands manage their visibility within AI-driven search environments. The model defines Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) as distinct but connected layers. The company argues that as search shifts from rankings to AI-generated answers, brands need a new strategy for discovery.
Brandi AI is led by CEO and co-founder Leah Nurik, who has a 20-year career working with over 400 growth-stage software companies in marketing and strategy roles at firms like Motorola and Symbol Technologies. She also founded Gabriel Marketing Group, a PR and marketing agency focused on B2B SaaS companies. The McLean, Va.-based company positions its "Generative Engine Optimization" (GEO) as a new discipline distinct from traditional SEO. While SEO focuses on ranking in link-based results, GEO aims to have a brand's content cited and reused over time within AI-generated answers on platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. The term "Generative Engine Optimization" itself originated from a November 2023 academic paper on arXiv, which claimed the techniques could boost visibility in generative responses by up to 40%. However, the term is debated, with some experts arguing "Answer Engine Optimization" (AEO) is a clearer description of the outcome. Brandi AI's platform is designed to track brand mentions and citation frequency within AI answers, benchmark visibility against competitors, and identify content gaps. It provides a framework for marketers to refine existing assets—like web pages, press releases, and case studies—to improve how they are interpreted and surfaced by large language models. The company has raised $6.2M in funding, including a $5.2M seed round in June 2024 with investors like Designer Fund, K5 Global, and Offline Ventures. During an early access program, Brandi AI's initial users included CMOs, product marketers, and startup founders aiming to gain traction against larger competitors. The platform is intended to integrate into existing SEO, PR, and content workflows without requiring a major overhaul.
