Rosalia reimagines New Balance 204L

Spanish superstar Rosalia partnered with New Balance to reimagine the classic 204L silhouette — now available for online purchase. The collaboration reflects the ongoing crossover between pop culture and athletic wear, targeting both fashion and music fans.

The 204L silhouette is a brand-new design for 2025, created to bridge different eras of the brand's history. It merges the slim, low-profile of 1970s running shoes with the tech-inspired, layered textures that defined early 2000s aesthetics, tapping into the Y2K fashion revival. This collaboration is a natural step for Rosalía, who is deeply embedded in the high-fashion world. She has served as a global brand ambassador for Dior and has been featured in campaigns for Calvin Klein and Acne Studios. Her style is known for mixing streetwear with haute couture, making a sneaker partnership a fitting extension of her brand. The partnership is part of New Balance's proven strategy of shedding its "dad shoe" reputation by signing deals with influential musicians. The brand has found success with a roster of artists including Jack Harlow, Jaden Smith, and Aminé, using their cultural appeal to reach younger, style-focused demographics. To launch the collaboration, New Balance enlisted creative agency American Haiku and director Alex Prager for a five-part cinematic campaign. In the ads, Rosalía is seen wearing the 204L in a subtle beige "Timberwolf" colorway, a counterpart to the silhouette's initial "Mushroom" release. Hints of the partnership were dropped before the official announcement. Months prior, Rosalía was spotted arriving for the Met Gala wearing New Balance football cleats under her dress, a deliberate and unusual fashion choice that signaled the impending collaboration. The musician-sneaker market is a powerful force in fashion, with collaborations often leading to instant sell-outs and huge cultural buzz. Partnerships like those between Travis Scott and Nike or Kanye West's Yeezy empire have demonstrated the massive impact artists can have on a footwear brand's sales and relevance.
