Nike Pegasus 42 Launches New Era

Nike has released the Pegasus 42 featuring improved energy return and a fresh fit, marking a new generation for the popular running shoe line. The launch includes the Pegasus Trail variant for off-road adventures and Nike's new AirFlow Cooling Shirt as part of the ACG Ultrafly Trail Racer package, promising radical advances in breathability and climate control for runners in hot or humid conditions.

- The Pegasus 42, launching on April 9, 2026, marks a significant update with the introduction of a full-length, curved Air Zoom unit, a change from the separate forefoot and heel units in previous models. This new design is engineered to provide a smoother transition and 15% greater energy return. - First released in 1983, the Pegasus was one of Nike's first shoes to feature an Air Wedge in the heel for improved shock absorption and quickly became a top-seller. The line was briefly discontinued in 1998 before being reintroduced in 2000 as part of the Bowerman Series. - The accompanying Pegasus Trail variant features a new All Terrain Compound 2.0 outsole for enhanced grip on wet and uneven surfaces and a wider internal toe box to improve stability on trails. - The new AirFlow Cooling Shirt utilizes a technology inspired by the Venturi Effect, where funnel-shaped airducts in the fabric accelerate airflow to the skin to enhance evaporative cooling. - Developed over two years, the AirFlow fabric is an engineered knit with hydrophilic chemistry that activates when wet, amplifying the cooling effect. Lab tests have shown it absorbs 50% less sweat than Nike's DriFit technology. - The ACG Ultrafly Trail Racer, part of the new package, features a ZoomX foam midsole and a full-length carbon fiber plate for responsive cushioning and energy return on the trails. - The Ultrafly's outsole is made of Vibram Megagrip for improved traction and durability, a feature specifically designed for trail racing. - The re-engineered mesh upper on the Pegasus 42 is designed to be more breathable and lightweight, offering a more conforming fit compared to its predecessor, the Pegasus 41.
