Rousey-Carano Superfight Set May 16
Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano have officially ended their retirements to face each other on May 16 in California. This marks Rousey's first fight in nearly a decade and Carano's return after more than 15 years away from competition. The bout between two of women's MMA's original superstars is already being billed as a historic "dream matchup" for the sport's global fanbase.
- Ronda Rousey’s last two fights ended in losses, first a knockout by Holly Holm in 2015, followed by a 48-second TKO loss to Amanda Nunes in December 2016. - Gina Carano's sole professional loss was in her last fight against Cris Cyborg in August 2009 for the inaugural Strikeforce Women's Featherweight title. - Prior to Rousey's ascent, Carano was widely considered the "face of women's MMA," and her 2009 bout with Cyborg was the first time two women headlined a major MMA event. - Rousey, the first woman inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, was the company's inaugural Women's Bantamweight Champion and holds the record for most title defenses by a female fighter with six. - During her time away from MMA, Rousey pursued a career in professional wrestling with WWE, where she became a three-time world champion. - Carano transitioned into an acting career, with notable roles in films such as "Haywire," "Fast & Furious 6," and "Deadpool," as well as portraying Cara Dune in the first two seasons of "The Mandalorian." - The upcoming featherweight bout will be held at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, and will be promoted by Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions. - Before her MMA career, Rousey was an accomplished judoka, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in judo with a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games.
