Study: 25% of Americans Can't Name Retirement Provider
A new study from PensionBee reveals that one in four U.S. adults cannot confidently name the institution that manages their retirement funds. The finding highlights a growing issue of dormant or forgotten accounts as workers change jobs more frequently.
- An estimated 31.9 million 401(k) accounts were considered "forgotten" as of July 2025, holding approximately $2.13 trillion in assets. This represents nearly a quarter of all assets held in 401(k)s. Factors contributing to this include job changes, company mergers, and outdated contact information. - To transition into nursing informatics, registered nurses typically need a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), at least two years of full-time practice, and between 1,000 to 2,000 hours of experience in informatics. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) offers the board certification in Nursing Informatics (NI-BC™). - ICU experience is highly valuable for a career in health IT, particularly in the growing field of tele-ICU. Remote ICU nurses use telemedicine to monitor patients, advise bedside colleagues, and improve patient outcomes, which can lead to reduced mortality rates and shorter ICU stays. - A significant source of frustration for frontline nurses is the usability of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, with many giving them an "F" rating due to inefficient workflows. Common complaints include slow system response times, a burdensome number of clicks, and inadequate training. - Health Level Seven (HL7) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a key standard for exchanging electronic health information. It uses a modern, web-based API approach to allow different health IT systems to communicate, enabling better data sharing between providers, payers, and patients. - Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into clinical decision support (CDS) systems in acute care settings. These AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of patient data to help with diagnostics, predict patient deterioration, and reduce medication errors. - EHR optimization strategies aim to streamline clinical workflows and improve user satisfaction. Key strategies include simplifying documentation templates, reducing alert fatigue, and customizing order sets to better align with actual clinical processes. - The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have established rules to promote interoperability and prevent information blocking. These regulations mandate the use of standardized APIs to ensure patients have access to their electronic health information.
