Fallout New Vegas Remaster Teased
Hopes are high for a remaster after Iron Galaxy teased "what's coming next" with a very familiar loading screen, stirring excitement around this beloved RPG classic. The tease has sent "remaster hopium off like Mount Vesuvius" according to PC Gamer, as fans have been requesting a New Vegas remaster for years.
*Fallout: New Vegas* was originally developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks, releasing in October 2010. The studio was given a tight 18-month development window to create the game. Many of Obsidian's founders were ex-Interplay and Black Isle Studios developers who had worked on the original *Fallout* and *Fallout 2*, making them a natural fit for the project. Upon release, the game was a commercial success, selling over five million copies within weeks and generating $300 million in revenue. However, it was also plagued by numerous bugs and glitches at launch. This contributed to it receiving a Metacritic score of 84 out of 100, just one point shy of the 85 required for Obsidian to receive a bonus payment from Bethesda. Despite the initial technical issues, *New Vegas* is often hailed by fans as one of the best games in the series due to its deep role-playing mechanics, player agency, and complex narrative. The game's writing and branching questlines, which allow for significant player choice and consequence, are frequently cited as its greatest strengths. The studio behind the tease, Iron Galaxy, has a history of collaborating with Bethesda. They have worked on ports for *The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim* to the Nintendo Switch and have also contributed to the development of *Fallout 76*. This existing relationship makes them a plausible candidate for handling a potential remaster. Bethesda's Todd Howard has stated that Obsidian was "the only choice" to develop the original *New Vegas* because of their experience with the franchise's DNA and their work on sequels like *Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II*. The only major directive Bethesda gave Obsidian was to focus on the game's warring factions. The intense fan desire for a remaster is rooted in the game's lasting legacy as a title that prioritizes narrative impact and player freedom. Its reputation for offering a more faithful role-playing experience compared to other modern *Fallout* entries has cultivated a dedicated fanbase that has been requesting an updated version for years.
