Orion Sleep Wins Design Award for AI-Powered System

Orion Sleep has won a 2026 iF Design Award for its AI-powered smart sleep system. The award recognizes the company's innovation in temperature-regulating sleep technology and biometric optimization. The system uses AI to adjust sleep conditions based on user data.

The iF Design Award is a globally recognized mark of design excellence, originating in 1954. For the 2026 awards, Orion Sleep's system was selected from a pool of approximately 11,000 submissions from nearly 70 countries, evaluated by a jury of over 130 independent design experts. Orion's system is a smart mattress cover that uses built-in sensors to track biometric data, including heart rate and breathing rate, to inform its AI. The AI then adjusts the surface temperature in real-time to optimize for deep and REM sleep stages by aligning with the body's natural temperature cycles. The system features dual-zone temperature control, allowing for different temperature profiles on each side of the bed. The compact "Control Tower" unit powers this, circulating water through the cover to achieve a temperature range from 50°F to 115°F. This is a wider temperature range than some competitors. Founded by Harry Gestetner, Orion recently raised $18 million in a seed round with backing from investors like Mucker Capital and Browder Capital. The company positions itself as a more affordable alternative in the market, with its queen-size system priced at $2,295, compared to competitors like Eight Sleep. The system's reliance on local data processing and control aligns with the principles of modern smart home standards like Matter. Matter, an IP-based protocol backed by Apple, Google, and Amazon, prioritizes local, reliable, and secure interoperability between devices, reducing reliance on cloud-to-cloud connections.
