Nvidia Invests $2B in AI Cloud Startup
Nvidia is investing $2 billion in startup Nebius and taking an 8.3% stake. The move underscores fierce competition to build out the data center backbone required for AI workloads.
Nvidia's $2 billion investment in Nebius gives them an 8.3% stake in the AI cloud firm. Nebius, formerly a Dutch holding company of the Russian tech giant Yandex, was spun out in 2024 and is now headquartered in Amsterdam. Nebius focuses on providing full-stack AI cloud services. The partnership aims to develop and deploy next-generation hyperscale cloud infrastructure for the AI market, serving both AI-native businesses and enterprise clients. Nebius plans to use the investment to build more than 5 gigawatts of AI data-center capacity by 2030. Nvidia will support Nebius's expansion by providing early access to its latest accelerated computing technologies, including the NVIDIA Rubin platform. Nebius has already secured major contracts to supply AI infrastructure to firms like Microsoft (a $17.4 billion deal) and Meta Platforms (a $3 billion contract). CEO Jensen Huang stated that Nebius is building an AI cloud designed for the "agentic era". This refers to AI that can perform tasks autonomously.
