Ubiquiti Launches G6 Dome Cameras and Protect 6.1

Ubiquiti has unveiled its 6th generation G6 Dome security cameras, designed for indoor and outdoor use. Alongside the new hardware, the company released its Protect 6.1 software, which introduces improved alarm handling and integration for new environmental sensors. The UniFi platform is often integrated with Apple HomeKit via third-party tools like Homebridge and Scrypted.

- The G6 Dome camera utilizes a 1/1.8" 8MP sensor to capture 4K video (3840 x 2160) at 30 FPS and is powered by a quad-core Arm® Cortex®-A53 based chip for on-device AI processing. - UniFi Protect 6.1's redesigned imaging engine provides granular control over video quality, allowing for precise tuning of minimum and maximum bitrates and using Region of Interest (ROI) encoding to allocate more data to critical zones. - The new software enhances person detection by combining facial and body recognition for higher accuracy and adds camera tamper detection as a new trigger for alarms on G6 and AI series cameras. - For HomeKit integration, Scrypted exposes each camera as a direct accessory rather than a bridged device, a design choice that can improve performance by preventing a single slow device from delaying updates for all others. - The popular `homebridge-unifi-protect` plugin provides an alternative HomeKit integration method by using a reverse-engineered real-time events API, enabling instantaneous feedback from cameras and sensors to HomeKit. - While Ubiquiti has not announced official support for the Matter smart home standard, successful implementation of Matter devices on a UniFi network requires enabling IPv6 for
