OpenAI has changed how companies buy ChatGPT, adding monthly billing, flexible seat counts and a new $100-a-month Pro tier for individual users. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) The business change took effect April 2, 2026, across ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Education. OpenAI said customers can now keep a baseline number of seats and add more seats above that baseline with month-to-month adjustments. (help.openai.com) OpenAI also split seats into two types for Business and Enterprise: a standard ChatGPT seat and a Codex-only seat. Codex is the company’s coding agent, and OpenAI moved its pricing to usage-based billing tied to token consumption instead of per-message charges. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) For Business customers, OpenAI said standard seat pricing fell by $5 a month under the new structure. Its pricing page now lists ChatGPT Business at $25 per user per month on monthly billing and $20 per user per month on annual billing in most countries. On April 9, 2026, OpenAI introduced a new $100 Pro option between Plus at $20 a month and the existing $200 Pro plan. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com) OpenAI said the $100 plan includes unlimited access to GPT-5.4, access to GPT-5.4 Pro and 5 times more Codex usage than Plus as a standard allowance. OpenAI’s release notes said that allowance is temporarily 10 times higher than Plus through a launch promotion. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com) The $200 Pro plan did not go away. OpenAI said it remains the highest-usage tier and now carries 20 times the Codex usage of Plus, with its current promotion running through May 31, 2026. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com) The pricing changes come as OpenAI pushes Codex deeper into ChatGPT subscriptions instead of treating coding help as a separate product. OpenAI’s help pages now say Codex is included with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise or Education plans, with higher limits on paid tiers. (help.openai.com) The new lineup gives OpenAI more price points for two different buyers at once: companies that want to manage seats more tightly, and power users who want more coding capacity without jumping straight to $200 a month. OpenAI is now selling ChatGPT with more of the pricing logic long used in cloud software: a base commitment, extra usage on top, and a wider ladder of tiers. (help.openai.com) (help.openai.com)
