Hawaii fares remain high

Summer flights to Hawaii are staying expensive even as airlines add seats from the East Coast. Delta’s New York John F. Kennedy to Honolulu service went daily on April 1, 2026, but published summer fares are still running well above many mainland domestic routes. Delta said the route expanded from up to five weekly flights to daily service beginning April 1, 2026, operated by a Boeing 767-300. The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism said total visitor spending reached $1.91 billion in February 2026, up 10.3 percent from February 2025, while arrivals rose 3.6 percent to 787,024. In February 2026, the state said U.S. West visitors spent $867.3 million and U.S. East visitors totaled 210,125, up 5.6 percent from a year earlier. Instead of connecting through Los Angeles or another West Coast hub, passengers can fly one long segment directly to Honolulu, a schedule Hawaii Guide described as about 12 hours westbound. Delta’s aircraft on the route includes four cabins, and the airline has been pushing higher-end products such as Delta Premium Select and Delta One across long-haul flying.
